Welcome everyone to our blog. Let me start by telling you a bit about myself, then you can do the same by replying with some news about you.
I'm Carolyn - your teacher, and I'm looking forward to working with you this semester. I've lived in Portugal for over 20 years now. I live with my husband (who is Portuguese) in the countryside near Santarém. It's a lovely peaceful spot where I can grow fruit, veg and flowers (I love plants), although I haven't had much time to spend in my garden recently. It's also great for another of my hobbies - running. I just need to slip on my shoes and off I go - slowly!
My favourite things about this country are the light, the wine and the fish, but I don't like hot weather, so summer isn't my favourite time of the year. I tend to hibernate inside when the weather's hot. I like the quiet of the countryside but also love Lisbon. I lived in the capital city for three years, but wouldn't really like to live there again. Some other hobbies are reading, meeting friends , travelling and cooking. I'm not very artistic, and my original choice of degree course was in biological sciences. I worked for 10 years in microbiology before coming to this country and changing my line of work completely! But it's nice to have a foot in both camps.
